So far

The Following cities will be depicted on my Railroad. Idaho Falls, Iona, Ririe, Rigby, Lewisville, Garry, Ammon, Menan, Orvin and North Idaho Falls. The cities of Pocatello, Rexburg, and Butte will be depicted by staging yards.

The bench work for all the walls are in, the peninsulas are waiting on track to become available and then they will be built. The three staging yards are in as well as all of the track in the cities of Ucon, Garry and Rigby. The Power for the Layout is A Digitrax Zepher with a UT4 for now, with plans to upgrade to a super Chief set up with another UT4 and DT400, once all the track is in for Idaho Falls. There are to 5-6 trains in the staging Yards. They are as Follows, In Idaho Falls, UP POC-BUTTE mixed Freight, UP POC-IF transfer, and the Blackfoot local that will run out of Idaho Falls instead of Pocatello. In the Butte staging yard will be the UP Silver Bow local and the Montana Rail Link, BUTTE-IF Transfer,(fictitious trackage agreement.) The On layout Jobs will be the Yard Job, Idaho Falls and North Idaho Falls industrial trackage, East Belt Local (Orvin, Ammon, and Ririe), the West Belt Local (Ucon, Lewisville and Menan) and the Ashton Local, (Garry, Rigby and Rexburg Staging)

Trains will leave either Butte or Pocatello staging and make several loops and pull into Idaho Falls.
Idaho Falls will have a 7 track yard, Engine Terminal, MOW track, Caboose track, and a fuel track. It will have and industrial lead parallel to the yard that will service a Freight Platform, and three others yet to be determined. North Idaho Falls will consist of a Lumber Yard and small intermodal transfer station. There will be a passing siding and Wye. The wye and passing siding are also the passing siding and wye located in Orvin.

To reach the the city of Orvin the local leaves Idaho Falls and makes 1 loop and stops at Orvin. Orvin has a short siding, (a crossover from the main so the yard lead can still be used) a wye and an Oil Distribution center. The city of Ririe and Ammon are located on a peninsula on the tail track of the wye. Ammon will have a sugar factory and well as an industry the will use boxcars (yet to be determined) and a long freight platform for any local industries not located next to the tracks. Ririe will consist of a large 2 track grainery.

To reach the city of Ucon the local leaves the yard and makes 2 loops around the layout and stops in Ucon, Ucon has two industries a steel yard and a Coal Dealer. Lewisville and Menan are located on another peninsula. Lewisville has a short Potatoe warehouse and Menan will be a large lumber manufacture.

To reach the city of Garry the local leaves the yard and make 3 loops around the layout and stops at the other end of the Ucon passing track. Garry Has a small grainery. Rigby has a 7 car storage track, 2 Potatoe warehouses and 1 frieght station. The local then makes one more loop and takes 6-7 cars up to Rexburg, leaving the rest on the siding in Rigby, to transfer with 6-7 cars that are in the 3 track runaround staging yard in Rexburg.

On certain days a short Union Pacific Operation Lifesaver train or a short chartered Amtrak Train (3-4 cars) may be located in a staging yard along with a shortened version of the local. I figure that this layout should keep three people busy for several hours just running half the scheduled trains when fully operational.scheduled trains when fully operational.

The whole of the visible layout is and will be Code 55 Micro Engineering track and switches. The staging yard is a combination of ME, Peco and Atlas code 55 and Code 80 track and switches. I still need 8 right and 8 Left Micro Engineering Switches and about 150 feet of track. I am patiently waiting for the switches to be produced. I am also looking for 5 Union Pacific Kato SD40-2’s, 2 Union Pacific Atlas MP15’s. I have all the other freight cars, passenger cars, MOW cars, engines and Caboose (cabooses will be required on all freights)
If you have any of the locos and they are DCC ready or equiped and at a good price please contact me.

The Begining

This is a blog about the Yellowstone Branch of the Oregon Short Line RR. My Railroad is in a roughly 12'x12' room of our house. It is N Scale and is based roughly on the Branch line of the Union Pacific From Idaho Falls to Rigby, with major modlers licence implied. Stay Tuned for more updates....
